Skill Assignments

Skills are assigned to e.g learning paths, course templates, courses, media and resources or can be selected as prerequisites for course or learning path registration. They indicate the competence of users on a scale and determine the prerequisites for course registration. Upon completing courses, users gain further skills.

Use for Learning Paths, Course Templates, Courses and Media

Upon adding skills, it can be determined from which degree to which degree the activity is to improve user skills. Depending on skill settings, options can be selected from a scale (e.g. Novice -> Advanced) or as a numerical interval, e.g. from 30/100 points to 75/100 points. Whether this selection is available varies by skill settings, whether it is mandatory depends on system settings.

Another option consists in the attrition of achieved skills. On the basis of an attrition rate proposed by the skill (e.g. 10 points every 6 months), diverging rules can be determined.

The meta tag "Update skills" determines if and when achieved abilities are awarded to learners, e.g. upon completing a course to which the skill was assigned.

Another option when assigning skills to a course is the "No evaluation" setting; after completing the course, the learner is assigned the skill, but without a specific level.

Use for Resources

For resources, the achieved ability of a resource (usually a tutor/trainer) is recorded.

Use as Registration Prerequisite

For registration prerequisites, the required minimum ability is indicated.
