Media Administration

Media of multiple types are managed centrally and can be added to courses and course templates, learning paths, and the bookshelf via the "Components", "Social Media" and "Library" tabs (not available for all media). All media can also be integrated into the navigation. Media types with identifiers that can be pre-defined serve as the basis for media.

The following media types are available: Events, File, Multimedia, WBT, WBT (AICC), WBT (SCORM), External content, External tool (LTI), LinkedIn Learning, link, forum, Adobe Connect Meeting, Adobe Connect recording, GoToWebinar, GoToMeeting, Vitero Meeting and MS Teams meeting.

Events, GoToMeeting, GoToWebinar, OpenMeetings, Vitero Meetings, Adobe Connect Meetings, Team Meetings, and Webex Meetings can be used as "social media". Media need to be published to be available for learners in courses, catalogues or on the bookshelf.

Fuctions of the Media Manager

Monolingual and Multilingual Media

Media are administered multilingual. In practice, this cannot be implemented effectively for some media, e.g. if forum entries are only appropriate in one language because not all forum participants can and want to write contributions in various languages. Forums and similar media are therefore managed only in monolingual format. If media are supposed to be added to a multilingual course, the allocation of multilingual media takes place only once. Monolingual media must be allocated per language.

Multilingual Media

Several languages are defined on the "languages" tab. The translation of texts takes place manually or, if the "translation workflow" function is activated, then automatically, with the text to be translated being exported and translated externally before being re-imported. Management of media type WBT (SCORM) differs in this respect (see working languages from content objects), as these cannot be exported.

Exportable Monolingual Media

This media always consists of a base language and a working language when it comes to management. In order to provide monolingual media in several languages, it can be created in one language and then duplicated and translated.

New

The creation process of a medium starts with the selection of a media type. Depending on the type, there are multiple tabs for creating media and multiple settings options.

Description Tab

The tab exists for all media. It serves the definition of description attributes like name, description, and keywords, which facilitate later manager searches, as well as specific settings. Which meta tags and attributes are shown, is defined on media type level.

Resources Tab

For media resource planning, the same functions as for courses apply.

New

New → Import LinkedIn Learning Content (License required)

Importing LinkedIn Learning content is useful if you want to import multiple courses or videos. First you have to select a learning content type that has already been assigned to the desired "external content provider". Then an API is used to establish a direct connection to LinkedIn Learning and content can be searched for. The content to be imported is selected and then imported.

The imported learning content can be used in the system in the same way as manually created content, e.g. it can be assigned to catalogues or courses.

New → Import 3rd-Party Content (License required)

Importing third-party content can benefit those looking to include multiple courses or videos. Initially, it is necessary to choose a learning content type that has been previously assigned to the desired "external content provider." Subsequently, an API directly connects to the chosen third-party content provider, allowing for content searches. After selecting the referenced content, it can be brought into the system.

Once referenced, the learning content functions similarly to manually created content, which can be assigned to catalogues or courses.

Edit → to Favorites

Any number of media can be selected as "favorites". Media are managed in a special structure, so they can be found quickly, for instance, to be integrated into courses. Courses offer a special search filter for this purpose.

Edit → Edit in imc Express

https://imc-doc.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FunkRef/pages/330433450/imc+Express+Integration#Configurationhttps://imc-doc.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FunkRef/pages/330433450/imc+Express+Integration#Editable-in-imc-Express

These two configurations must be made for this option to be available (of course only available for WBTs coming from express). However, no access rights for imc Express are queried here, i.e. it can still happen that someone has rights for the content in the LMS and can select this option, but then fails in imc Express because there are no rights there. This is not checked across the two instances.

Edit → WBT Content

The update function for AICC WBTs allows updating the four files belonging to the AICC WBT when changes occur (e.g. if there are errors in the title or description), as with the creation of a new medium, by uploading an individual ZIP file, without having to create a new medium itself. This way, changes to the description, the structure or the title of the AICC WBT become effective.

Edit → WBT Content Update

The WBT-content update allows you to update WBT content in the appropriate directories and upload it again without a new version.

The description files (4 files for AICC and a manifest file for SCORM) do not have to be included in the ZIP file. Only the content files are imported.

This type of update can only be performed with a WBT, which is stored in the system data directory. WBTs supervised by external providers cannot be updated this way.

The update cannot be undone, because the system does not support backups of the original content. Older versions created prior to the update can still be released.
