Cumulative Skills

A new skill type “cumulative skills“ that enables a more fine-grained accumulation of skills is available.

With cumulative skills, learners acquire skills continuously through activities such as courses or learning paths by accumulating "points". This scenario is useful especially for heterogeneous learner groups, as skills are acquired through accumulation rather than by setting a fixed level at the end of the course.

To use this skill type, "Level assignment by accumulation" must be marked in the respective skill settings of the the skill description tab (see screenshot below).

Parallel Skill Expiry Setting

This option allows cumulative skill values to exceed 100, facilitating accurate skill expiry calculations based on multiple course skills. Furthermore, this setting takes skill expiry configurations of multiple courses into account. It is important to note that the parallel skill expiry applies only to newly created skills due to compatibility issues. Consequently, once the skill settings are saved, this option cannot be reversed. On the learner front-end, the numerical values of the accumulated skills that surpass 100 will be displayed accurately; however, the graphical bars will only reflect up to 100 points.

In order to enable and select “Parallel skill expiry“, the "Level assignment by accumulation" checkbox must be marked in the skill description tab (see screenshot above).

Example for parallel skill expiry with skill values higher than 100:

A learner acquires following skill points for different courses:

50 points for course A completed on 31.12.2023 with 50 points expiry in 12 months

60 points for course B completed on 01.10.2024 with 60 points expiry in 12 months

→ 110 points on 1.10.2024

→ -50 points on 31.12.2024 = 60 points

→ -60 point on 1.10.2025 = 0 points
